Philip Guard has over 30 years’ experience of product development experience across the biotechnology  and contract research industries, including novel delivery systems, biologicals, anti-infectives, diagnostics and medical devices.

During that time he has directed clinical research teams on global projects, managed discovery groups embedded in Universities as well as managing projects from concept to market. He has also carried out product evaluations for in-licensing, participated in corporate fund raising and co-ordinated the technical due-diligence to support a Stock Exchange listing. Before founding PWG Consulting (BioPharma), he was Vice-President of the European operations of a global Contract Research Organisation.

Philip is a qualified Veterinary Surgeon and spent several years in general practice and the Animal Health industry before moving into biotechnology.

Penelope (Penny) Ward qualified in medicine from University College Hospital London. Following an initial career in clinical and academic medicine, specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, she joined The Upjohn Company as a clinical research physician in 1991.

During her extensive industry career during which she occupied positions of increasing seniority at Pharmacia and Upjohn, Hoffman-La Roche, GSK, NovImmune SA, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and UCB, she has been responsible for the clinical development of multiple novel therapeutics (small molecules and biologics). Her work has resulted in the approval of nine novel therapies for the treatment of infectious diseases, osteoporosis and autoimmune disorders in the US, EU and Japan, enabled switches from prescription to non prescription status and supported the development of companion diagnostics.
